Safety Film

First, it is important to explain where this idea began.

The origin came from a core belief of STARLUX founder and chairman Chang Kuo Wei.

“Flight goes beyond the atmosphere.”

Starting from this belief, Daikido Idea Collective decided that this safety video should no longer be confined to the perspective of an aircraft cabin. Instead, it would open up into a much broader world.

To confirm the direction, we spent an extensive amount of time researching safety videos from airlines around the world. As we watched more and more examples, one pattern became clear. Many safety videos were constrained by regulations. They relied on live action performances, formal narration, and standardized visuals. Some collaborated with the film industry or featured well known actors, but at their core, they remained instructional. Even animated versions often felt like content passengers were required to sit through rather than something they wanted to watch.

When we began developing STARLUX’s safety video, the early stage discussions became especially critical. We revisited animated films from both Taiwan and abroad, and conducted detailed research into the target audience.

This was because we believed that a truly successful safety video should not feel like something passengers endure. It should draw viewers into its world naturally, without effort.

With this foundation in place, the characters could not simply be cute or visually striking. They needed to be rooted in real travelers and real passenger profiles.

Alongside STARLUX cabin crew and the helper character E-boy, the film introduces a range of travelers. These include a small family, a couple known as the Volcano and Miranda, an interstellar tycoon and a business traveler known as C.C.SUSU and George, young travelers such as the Migo and DJ.Raga, and the most symbolic figure of all, Eason, the backpacker.

Each character represents a distinct type of passenger behavior and travel habit. From early concept sketches and character proposals to the final script and complete world building, the development process took an entire year.

Only after the proposal was officially approved did we begin collaborating with an animation studio to bring the project to life. The result was what came to be known as the most internationally accomplished airline safety animation ever produced in Taiwan.

There was one regret associated with this project. After the animation was completed, the animation studio claimed the original concept as its own and submitted the work to major competitions. This incident was deeply disappointing. However, it does not diminish the true value of the project.

What deserves to be remembered is this. The concept, script, characters, and entire world of this animation were created and completed entirely by a local Taiwanese team.

This remains something we are deeply and sincerely proud of.
